Our Collaborations

This is our showcase of our most recent collaborations: highlighting our joint initiatives that challenge systemic barriers, foster equity, and empower Black communities across the UK and beyond.

TBPI x USC Annenburg

The Black Policy Institute (TBPI) gave a keynote presentation to students at the USC Annenberg School, followed by a short discussion. The session was designed to be interactive and focused on how TBPI approaches decision-making, using the metaphor of “Touching the Chair” to explain our process.

What the Session Covered:

We walked the audience through their process of identifying key issues, gathering data, engaging communities, and building strategies. The “Touching the Chair” exercise was used to show how every part of decision-making is connected and essential to achieving meaningful outcomes.

Hands-On Activities:

“Touching the Chair” Exercise: Participants physically interacted with a chair to break down how objectives are made up of smaller, interconnected parts.

Race Discussion: Explored how race shapes identities, societal structures, and interactions, sparking a deeper conversation about its impact.

Culture Conversation: Looked at how culture evolves and influences our perspectives, especially within marginalized communities.

Interactive Elements: Tools like Mentimeter allowed the audience to contribute their thoughts, making the presentation more engaging and participatory.

CoCo Collective: “Kitemark”

TBPI partnered with CoCo Collective, a grassroots organisation dedicated to providing safe spaces to grow, learn and and connect with nature. We facilitated focus groups to help develop the Kitemark, a race equity standard designed to measure and promote diversity and inclusion within organizations. Through these efforts and gathering insights from Black communities in Lewisham, TBPI provided critical research and strategic guidance to shape the framework.
